Renaming files

[edit]

Hello, you have put some rename file template in some files like File:Kathmandu-23.jpg, but without target and reason. Please can you solve it, or remove template. Olivier LPB (talk) 09:48, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Olivier LPB I am sorry there was a person who told me it was a normal practice to add templates like that to request for other people to choose appropriate filenames. I will look through all my other files like that to fix them too. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 17:39, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Immanuelle, in case you're lost today about writing a sensible file name... I have a suggestion. As you used your iPhone to shoot your travel imagery, your photos have location geodata embedded. Please have a look at Special:Diff/1040914795/1040916352. It's one of your Kathmandu images. There, I simply clicked on the coordinates to get your photo location displayed in Google maps. That immediately got me the orientation (northwards) and a neighbouring street name, add the shot date, and voilà: a nice file name presents itself! -> File:Kathmandu view north from Swayambhu Marg 2024-10-03.jpg. This is an easy way for you to provide us with good file names. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 21:37, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Grand-Duc yeah I just noticed you doing that, and was kind of confused since I thought it might have been me. But I applies the naming scheme.
But how do I find the direction my phone was pointing? That has always been my biggest difficulty with my photos. Is it inferred or in the metadata? Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 21:39, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's coded in the location data. Smartphones are able to determine their orientation in space by using several cross-referenced methods: a classical compass, accelerometers and GPS itself. On File:Kathmandu view north from Swayambhu Marg 2024-10-03.jpg, it's in the extended details: "Direction of image= 343.56581103222 // Reference for bearing of destination: True direction". In case that this failed, simply switch to the Google Maps 3D view and reconstruct the view you shot there. Then, you have a compass arrow bottom right from which you can infer the direction (the red arrow points north). Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 21:46, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

File renamings

[edit]

Hello, please be sure about your file renamings. You have recently requested two or more renamings for the same file within a short period of time. If you exhaust this, your renaming requests might be declined. Best, ChemSim (talk) 22:27, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Immanuelle: And please do not request one file four to five-times for renaming at the same time! ChemSim (talk) 22:46, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for the problems with this. Do you know of any script that I could use to quickly move all the categories to the bottom on a large amount of pages or remove comments? You saw some of the cruft that came about on my uploads from my past use of visual file changer. Some of them had not properly matched comment tags so that might cause issues though. Immanuelle ❤️💚💙 (please tag me) 23:35, 6 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Immanuelle: Hi, so far I'm not aware of such scripts for raster images. For SVGs, there is a cleanup script. I think you have to manually cleanup the source code of your uploads. ChemSim (talk) 08:23, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
