As a rough guideline, administrators usually require editors to have made more than 500 useful non-botlike edits, and to have been active in the last thirty days. Patrollers and License reviewers don't have to request this flag.
I update political maps and political charts and so overwriting files can assist me directly. I also do a lot of SVG editing so being able to make direct overwrites can help me in this. ~ CIN I&II (talk) 15:07, 20 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, mainly am asking about it since it's a bit annoying on overwrite requests, thank you on keeping the request open and hopefully I can get my edits up over time to get this. Thank you ~ CIN I&II (talk) 21:18, 21 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@PeeJay when you request for a right, or even go to ANs, you are expected to keep on checking the comments every now and then. Not everyone uses pings. This request might have been decided in May itself had you replied then. Please keep this in mind for future. Thank you. Shaan SenguptaTalk09:00, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Tô Ngọc Khang: : You're actually in the wrong place. If it's just a matter of cropping images, you only need Autopatrol permissions. Then you can use the Commons:CropTool and thus don't have to re-upload an image from an external source. Another advantage is that CropTool creates a link for you even after you've created it. Therefore, please request Autopatrol permissions, but I don't think it should be a problem to grant them to you. Greetings, זיו「Ziv」 • For love letters and other notes09:45, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There is a matter of a block from last September for copyvio. I'm not against granting, merely feeling cautious about it. Abzeronow (talk) 18:47, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It takes hours for an uncontroversial overwrite that would be extremely easy with autopatrol rights. I am more than 100 edits above the contribution guideline and frequently edit, and autopatrolled is an extremely simple right that would make my work far easier. I have uploaded a number of adjustments to the appearance of images using Photoshop, etc. When these are relatively minor, it creates clutter if I have to create another version of a file. As an example, File:Pilosocereus royenii 1.JPG has a rather 'washed out' appearance. I've a version on my computer which is more dynamic – more saturated, better contrast. I believe it's better to add this to the existing file rather than create a new one. When overwriting was allowed, there are some examples of my work at File:Yucca gloriosa 10.JPG, File:Hatiora gaertneri.jpg and File:Duda.JPG. Thank you. Peter coxhead (talk) 06:23, 7 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think the old examples are fine except for File:Hatiora gaertneri.jpg. At the new one the author is still active on Commons I would therefore ask for approval by this user first before overwriting the file. Granting autopatrol rights should be fine anyways. I've been editing for 10 years, uploaded over 1,500 files and now apparently need AP in order to not trip the Abuse filter when doing routine editing. Thank you. The Navigators (talk) 21:17, 8 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Active contributor in other Wikis and I upload and modify files here. I'm going to start a project to go and check all Finnish art piece pictures that the licenses there are correct and tag them as copyvio if found breaking freedom of panorama in finland policy. This would not add my actions to be patrolled. I'm a trusted and active member on the Finnish Wikipedia. Thank you. --Osmo Lundellhey18:23, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I want to request this right to help out with keeping useful files and nminating useless ones for deletion. I think I can help out a lot as I usually add categories to uncategorised media, so I'm moderately familiar what the requirements of a good file is. Thank you. From time to time, I work on editing templates. You might notice my changes in template pages. If you think it’s too early for me to do this, feel free to decline or point out my mistakes. Thank you. Incalltalk12:34, 31 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
As a rough guideline, administrators usually require editors to have made at least 1,000 useful, non-botlike edits or a large amount of justified renaming requests at Commons before they will consider granting the filemover right.
I would like to request the filemover right because I want to help more on Commons, and it seems to me that the filemover right would be a great way to do that. I know I have barely made any rename requests, but I have read the guideline well and properly- if rejected, then someone suggest where it might be easy to find files needing renaming? Also most of my uploads were very early, so I just uploaded them with their name from flickr- I now know that I should chosen way more informative names for them. Thank you. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 15:25, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm making RR's for some of my flickr uploads right now(maybe I should do it for all of them, but they are many, and most are unlikely to be used). I will also try to find other images to show that I understand all the rules and not just rule 2. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 15:38, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @DoctorWhoFan91, as you said as well as what I can see, you have just one renaming request till date. I would suggest you make some more successful requests and gain some experience. We can keep this open for (maybe) a week if you are willing. Shaan SenguptaTalk15:35, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah- I was going for concise as it's likely only chess editors will use these files. Perhaps your way is better- I made the latest RR your way. Thank you. DoctorWhoFan91 (talk) 15:58, 22 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I frequently upload self-created photos. Sometimes I misname the file names and only notice that after uploading. As a file mover, I could correct incorrect file names immediately and no longer have to submit requests to move them. Thank you. Dromedar61 (talk) 22:07, 26 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I primarily work on uploading public domain books for use in Wikisource and recently I've been working on uploading journals and magazines. I've encountered several cases when the filemover rights would make the work quicker. I'm requesting this right so I can reduce the renaming queue instead of adding to it. I've read through the renaming guidelines and understand it well. Thank you. Ciridae (talk) 09:13, 1 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
reason Experienced user, which held file-mover right for last three months. I would like to fix misnamed files, correct spelling mistakes, etc. Also, can it be permanent now? Last time this right was granted with an expiration date. Thank you. Ђидо (talk) 22:34, 3 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! I'm regularly active in categorizing, fixing descriptions, mostly related to North Africa (Maghreb Region). I often come across files that need to be renamed to match proper naming conventions. Filemover rights would help speed up my work, as I frequently encounter cases where renaming is necessary. Regards Riad Salih (talk) 12:02, 4 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]
In 2024 and 2025, we organized several photowalk events as a team, and I uploaded more than 1,000 photos for each event. Since I contribute a large number of uploads, I occasionally make mistakes in file naming. Having the filemover right would be helpful for correcting these issues more efficiently. Thank you.
