English: While "municipality" is defined internationally (per Merriam-Webster) as an urban populated place that functions as a political unit with corporate and self-government powers (therefore includes majority of the world's cities), "municipalities" in the Philippines are equivalent to "towns" of other countries and are distinct from cities in the same country.
